A Denver sheriff's deputy was arrested last week for allegedly selling drugs to jail inmates, police said. Solomon Mikael, 34, faces charges of investigation of bribery and introducing contraband. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Mikael is accused of smuggling marijuana, tobacco and other contraband into the Denver County Jail to sell to inmates. He was arrested after a five- month investigation by the Denver District Attorney's Office and the internal affairs units of the sheriff's and police departments. The Aurora police department, Metro Gang Task Force and Inspector General's Office of the Department of Corrections also assisted in the investigation. Mikael was hired in 1998. In 2001, he was placed on administrative leave after a department-issued submachine gun and ammunition were stolen from in front of his house. The weapons, which were issued to him as part of his assignment with the sheriff's emergency response unit, were left sitting in a silver case outside his truck. Police spokesman John White said he did not know whether the theft of the submachine gun would be re-examined as part of this most recent case. |
