| Two escaped inmates caught |

Two escaped inmates from Newton Correctional Facility in Iowa were apprehended by Fairfield and Jefferson County law officials last week following an anonymous tip. Levi Vaughn and Robert Andrews were arrested without incident at 1:57 a.m. Monday at 206 E. Pierce Ave., Apt. 22 by officers with Fairfield Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. The two were then transported to Jefferson County Correctional Facility. Vaughn and Andrews allegedly escaped through a window from the Newton Correctional Facility at approximately 11:47 p.m. Saturday. The Jasper County Sheriff and Newton Police Department were immediately notified and a search for the inmates began. Vaughn was serving a 10-year-sentence second-degree burglary. His sentence began Feb. 27, 2002. Andrews is serving a 25-year-sentence for attempted murder from Wapello County. His sentence began Feb. 2, 1998. |
