According to Lindsay Hayes, project director of the National Center on Institutions and Alternatives, two inmate suicides at Ohio's Warren County Jail should be carefully reviewed. Hayes, after consulting many jail officials, believes that the two hanging deaths are more than just a coincidence. Both Shawn Booker, 24, and Larry Spurlock, 35, were declared dead on Monday afternoon after corrections officers found them. Chief Deputy Larry Sims stated that corrections staff was stunned by the suicides. The Chief of the state's Bureau of Adult Detention, Charles Bailey, says that the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is not likely to examine the suicides, unless prompted by Sheriff Tom Ariss. |
