Indianapolis police are searching for an inmate who escaped from Marion County Jail on Saturday. Cedric Gilbert, 31, was being held without bond for charges in both Indiana and Florida. Gilbert apparently took advantage of a security situation during the escape, according to prison officials. Reports say that Gilbert most likely escaped while taking out the trash during his morning kitchen duties. Officials note that he possibly escaped through a small break in the razor wire at the top of the prison fence. Gilbert had prior arrests for drug and theft charges, but since those offenses had been non-violent, he was eligible for inmate worker status. Prison officials did mention that Gilbert had been involved in an assault case. |
