An Ohio man was executed yesterday, after luring a man into an alley and beating him to death in 1996. Herman Dale Ashworth, 32, pleaded guilty to the assault in 1997. Ashworth assaulted Daniel Baker, a 40-year-old Newark man, after Baker allegedly came onto Ashworth at a bar. Ashworth took Baker into an alleyway and, after beating him severely, took $40 from his wallet and returned to the bar. The beating, which killed Baker, was so violent that the deputy coroner said Bakers' injuries were comparable to a high-speed traffic accident or plane crash. Officials said that Ashworth was peaceful before his execution; he even released a final statement saying “A life for a life, let it be done and justice will be served.” |
