After spending a month on the run, inmate Walter Losiewski was apprehended in Georgia on Wednesday. Losiewski was being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center in Maryland before he escaped. According to officials, Losiewski was the first inmate to break free of the Maryland county detention center since it opened 16 years ago. Losiewski was being held on drug possession and trespassing charges but escaped from the detention center on the same day that a judge upheld his $10,000 bond review. Officers say that Losiewski's escape required the resources of multiple correctional agencies. After escaping, Losiewski shaved his head and managed to disguise himself, becoming unrecognizable. Police say that after Losiewski escaped to Georgia, his mother pleaded with him to turn himself in. He refused, however, and even escaped a second time after being arrested at the Georgiana Motel on Tuesday evening. After jumping out of a second-story window, Losiewski ran off only to be caught again, riding a bicycle down Route 13 the next day. Officials say that Losiewski is being held on first-degree escape charges, and two counts of failure to appear at court. |
