Two inmates at Garfield County, Okla., Detention Facility were charged last Wednesday in district court with assaulting officers working at the facility. Rodney Douglas Casey, 42, and Uneeda Renee Hayes, 36, both of Enid, were charged with felony assault and battery upon a police officer. Casey faces one felony count of assault and battery for kicking a sheriff's deputy in the leg three times when the deputy attempted to remove an extra mattress from Casey's cell Tuesday morning, according to court documents. About 8:20, while on a cell check, officers noticed Casey was lying of the floor of his cell, on top of two mats, the affidavit states. When officers told Casey to give up one of the mats, he refused and kicked one of the officers when they tried to take the extra mat from his cell. Casey faces a fine of up to $500, five years in prison or both if found guilty. Casey has a previous charge of assault and battery upon a jailer, also a felony, stemming from an Aug. 14 incident in the jail. Casey also is being held on two charges of animal cruelty. Bond was set in the amount of $2,500 in his most recent case. Hayes was charged with two counts of assault and battery upon a police officer and another felony charge of a prisoner placing bodily fluid upon a government employee. Hayes faces a fine of up to $500, five years in prison or both for each count of assault and battery upon a police officer, and up to two years in prison and a fine up to $1,000 for the other charge. Hayes spit in the face of jail supervisors when they entered her cell to handcuff her because she was striking her head against the cell door and yelling for them to let her out, according to court documents. When the supervisors entered Hayes' cell, she struggled to avoid being restrained and struck and kicked both supervisors during the altercation, according to court documents. One of the two supervisors used a Taser to administer a three-second drive stun to Hayes' right shoulder, before she would submit to being restrained. |
