The Indiana Department of Correction announced Thursday it has agreed to a four-year contract with a private company to run the New Castle Correctional Facility. But neither the Department of Correction nor the Department of Administration (which handles contracts) would release a copy of the contract, saying it wasn't actually done. GEO Group of Florida will be paid for a guaranteed average daily population of 961 inmates. During the first year of privatization, the 2,416-bed prison is expected to house 1,068 prisoners. Correction officials did not say how much the total contract is worth. GEO will be conducting job interviews with all staff employed there before it takes over the prison in January. |
