Madhya Pradesh government of India has decided to allow imprisoned couples to stay together in special ‘family barracks' in Hoshangabad jail.
“On an experimental basis, 25 couples will be permitted to stay together in family barracks in Hoshangabad jail,” state Jail Minister Dhal Singh Bisen said on Thursday while speaking on prison reform measures.
Special barracks are being constructed in Hoshangabad jail premises to accommodate the couples, besides a series of steps to improve living condition for other inmates, he said.
The decision to lodge couples together comes after taking into consideration jail inmates like former dacoits and other criminals who had surrendered to the police with conditions, the Minister said
Since it is not always possible to grant parole to such inmates, it was decided to allow them live together, he added.
