A Kansas inmate was mistakenly released from the Sedgwick County Jail on Monday after a paperwork mix-up, according to officials. Captain Barbra Maxwell said the mix-up started because two inmate mug shots were switched in the prisoner records. Officials reportedly went to the cell of the inmate that was supposed to be set free but when they call his name, his cellmate Troy Bauer, 33, responded. Due to the mix-up in mug shots, officials thought they had the right inmate. However, corrections officers add that Bauer had to answer a series of questions before his release, including his social security number and birthday and Bauer answered all of those questions correctly. About an hour after his release, authorities realized what had happened. While Maxwell adds that Bauer doesn't pose a threat to the community, officials are investigating whether or not the two cellmates had planned the mix-up. Bauer had been serving time for burglary charges. |
