An Arkansas inmate from Benton County Jail was hospitalized after attempting suicide in his cell on Tuesday.

According to officials, inmate Jeffrey Shaw, ripped his clothing and created a make-shift noose. Officers found Shaw attempting to hang himself five minutes after checking on him. Shaw had been on suicide watch and officers said they managed to stop him before he could hang himself.

Shaw was serving time for domestic battery. Officers added that Shaw was conscious and alert on the way to the hospital. This is the second suicide attempt at the facility this year, but neither inmate succeeded.
