An Oregon inmate killed himself early Sunday morning in the Jackson County Jail. Ian Mitchell O'Reilly, 33, was removed from suicide watch shortly before he hanged himself in his jail cell. Officials will not say why O'Reilly was removed from suicide watch. O'Reilly had been arrested on Friday for attacking his former sister-in-law. Authorities say that O'Reilly waited for the woman to leave her mother's house and get into her car, where he immediately forced his way into the driver's seat, drove a short distance, and then tried to strangle the woman. Two neighbors intervened when they saw O'Reilly strangling the woman, and he fled. However, the two neighbors managed to chase him and tackle him to the ground where they held him until police arrived. O'Reilly faced charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, and assault. |
