PA Prison Ends Lockdown

A Pennsylvania prison is no longer on lockdown, following an incident where two inmates used a metal object to pry open a window during an escape attempt last week.

According to officials at Luzerne County Correctional Facility, the two inmates allegedly tried to escape during what appears to be a staged fight by two other inmates. Officers believe the two inmates staged the fight to cause a distraction. Authorities say that the facility was on lockdown because the metal object used during the escape attempt was not recovered.

Deputy Warden Sam Hyder said in a statement that officers were not going to rest until the object was recovered, and safety was restored. Corrections staff is now on high alert for any suspicious activity, and more security cameras have been installed.

The two inmates, whose names were not released, were serving time for charges of aggravated assault and robbery.
