Two inmates were killed in Brazil yesterday, when rebellious inmates began fighting. Ten prison workers were taken hostage at the Jose Parada Neto penitentiary on the edge of Sao Paulo as well. Officials believe the altercation was gang related, citing that two rival gangs are housed at the facility. One of the hostages taken was the prison's security director. Riot police have recently surrounded the facility and Aniceto Fernandes Lopes is currently negotiating with the prisoners. The penitentiary administration press office would only state that the prisoners were demanding to speak with the state's secretary of prisons, Nagashi Furukawa. The press office would not release any other details on the issue. |
