After a fist-fight between two Georgia inmates last week, officials had to transport 80 offenders from the Hamilton Correctional Institution to another facility. Authorities issued a statement regarding the incident yesterday. Warden Jack Sapp reported that the two inmates had an argument in the recreation area of the prison. One of the inmates ran away, while the other inmate was handcuffed. According to officials, the second inmate had to be subdued using a chemical agent. Following the use of chemical spray, the other inmates at the facility began to get unruly and started fighting. The officers continued to use chemical agents to control the group. According to Sapp, there were no serious injuries or incidents, and no use of force. Officers from prisons in Mayo, Madison County, Columbia County and Baker County were called in to help look for evidence of fighting on the inmates such as the dye from the chemicals on their clothing. Roughly half of the 80 inmates transferred are being charged on disciplinary charges. |
