A prison outside of the Kyrgyzstan capitol erupted in violence on Thursday when inmates killed a lawmaker. The lawmaker, Tynychbek Akmatbeyev had been visiting the facility to look into the prisoners' conditions, the Kyrgyzstan government said.

Akmatbeyev was shot, as well as a bodyguard and an unidentified person. Also, Ikmatulla Polotov, the head of the prison administration, was severely beaten and gravely injured.

Reportedly, officers had vacated the facility, and left it in control of roughly 450 inmates who were still housed there. Kyrgyzstan Prime Minister Felix Kulov and Interior Minister Murat Sutalinov both rushed to the prison, in an attempt to negotiate with the inmates. The Prime Minister insisted that the inmates turn over the bodies of the deceased, which they complied with.
