Inmates Unruly; Officers Transferred

Four jail officers of the Lakhimpur Kheri district prison have been transferred following the ruckus which was created by 12 inmates of the jail last week.
Jail Superintendent B. B. Singh said the transferred prison staff, including the chief jail officer, were hand-in-glove with the trouble makers.
Ram Pratap Mishra, Prem Prakash, Rambaran Tiwari and Sri Krishna Bajpai were transferred to the district jails of Unnao, Hardoi, Rae Bareli and respectively.
Alleging exploitation and distribution of low quality food inside the prison, 12 inmates had climbed a tree inside the premises and threatened to commit suicide on October 19.
It was only after an assurance by ADM Bhagwan Singh that the prisoners relented and descended from the tree. They later presented a memorandum to him listing their demands.
Meanwhile, four of the 12 inmates have been shifted to a solitary cell.
Sources said the 12 inmates were undergoing sentences for heinous crimes and were drug addicts. They allegedly created the scene as drugs were not available to them inside jail.
