Yesterday, a group of mothers came forward to say that their sons were "beaten and tortured" by officers at a Washington D.C. jail. According to the mothers, the inmates were sprayed with Mace, stripped naked, hosed down, and attacked several times - all out of the view of security cameras. Mothers testified at a D.C. Council hearing, speaking for six inmates who claim they were abused during the incidents. The mothers demanded that the council investigate the alleged incidnets and fire anyone found responsible for the abuses. A Director at the prison says that the suspected ringleader of the incidents has been reassigned. Meanwhile, the mothers claim that they are receiving letters from their sons detailing the abuse, even as recently as late last month. The mothers also detailed the reports they had received, including descriptions of inmates being handcuffed and beaten, denied medical care, and sprayed in the face and genitals with mace. The mothers have not been able to locate security tapes from the prison, but maintain that they believe their sons, despite the claims of officials who say that these issues have already been addressed. |
