Louisiana Inmate Commits Suicide

According to Louisiana sheriffs, an inmate in the Iberia Parish Jail committed suicide yesterday. Officials report that the inmate died as a result of choking himself.

Harold Landry, 27, apparently tied a bed sheet between his bed and throat, leaning forward to strangle himself. Officers reportedly found Landry dead in his one-person cell when early yesterday morning. Landry was being held in a wing of the jail for prisoners with medical or behavioral problems.

According to authorities, Landry was “no stranger” to the jail, and did not fit in well with other inmates. Landry was housed in a one person cell mostly because of the reoccurring problems he had with other offenders. When officials found Landry they tried to revive him, but received no response. Landry is the first inmate to commit suicide in the facility since 1996.
