The West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority is investigating an allegation of inappropriate conduct between staff and inmates at the South Central Regional Jail in Charleston. No one has been charged yet. The investigation has been ongoing for several weeks, according to John King, the authority's director of operations. King said he did not know when the investigation will be complete. King refused to say how many staff and inmates are under investigation or whether they are male or female. In September, a former corrections officer at the Southwestern Regional Jail in Holden was indicted on a charge of imposing sexual intercourse or sexual intrusion on a female inmate. Everett Marcum resigned after an internal investigation. If convicted, he faces a possible prison sentence of one to five years and a fine of up to five-thousand dollars. |
