An assault in Wasco State Prison killed an inmate Wednesday, coroner's officials reported. Robert Bonham, 42, died at 4:07 p.m. in Kern Medical Center's emergency room, coroner's officials said. Correctional officers found Bonham lying in his cell around 12:20 p.m. with what appeared to be blood on his face and upper torso, according to the prison. Cranial bleeding from blunt force trauma was a preliminary diagnosis of Bonham's injuries, according to the prison. Bonham has been at the Wasco Reception Center since Sept. 29 after he violated his parole, according to the prison. He was originally convicted of grand theft exceeding $400 and committed from Fresno County, Wasco prison spokesman Lt. Brian Parriott said. Investigators put a prisoner who may have been involved in the attack in isolation, but Parriott said no charges have been filed yet. The man was identified as Bonham's cell mate by coroner's officials. |
