Tension erupted again in a Kyrgyzstan prison this morning, according to reports. Gunfire and casualties were reported following a Mondovanovka prison riot. Officers entered the prison to attempt to restore order after a recent inmate riot at the prison left a lawmaker, the country's prison director and two other bystanders dead. Troops were called in to surround the prison, and reports detail that two ambulances were seen leaving the facility shortly afterwards. An anonymous Justice Ministry official confirmed that there were causalities, but declined to give an estimate of how many people might be dead. Citizens that live close to the prison said that gunfire lasted for over 30 minutes this morning. Riots in two more prisons were also reported, and officials were forced to intervene to stop the uprising at one of the facilities. There were no reported causalities at that particular prison. Officials from the other rioting prison say that negotiations are being held. |
