Two South Carolina inmates escaped from the maximum-security Broad River Correctional Institution yesterday. Johnny Brewer, 39, was serving life in prison for a 1994 murder, while Jimmy Causey was serving life without parole for kidnapping members of his family and holding them at gunpoint.
 
The two inmates escaped by hiding in the bin of a trash truck at around 7 a.m., according to officials. Prisons director Jon Ozmint stated that the trash is usually compacted, and that if the trash was not compacted officials are going to investigate the issue.

Officials also said that the men were reportedly spotted with a woman in her car shortly after the escape. However, officers were unable to determine if the woman was with the inmates by choice or by force. Officials are still searching for both inmates.
