A Texas death row inmate escaped yesterday after obtaining civilian clothing and a fake ID badge. Charles Victor Thompson, 35, escaped from the Harris County Jail after receiving a death sentence for the 1998 shooting of his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend. According to officials, Thompson changed out of his orange jumpsuit while he was in an attorney booth, under the guise of having an attorney visit. Thompson also had an ID card that identified him as an employee for the Texas Attorney General's office. Officers say that the ID was convincing enough that he tricked the deputy of the prison. Thompson remains at large, and officials are questioning jail employees. Anyone with information regarding the escape should contact Harris County Jail officials. |
