Escaped Inmate Surrenders after 18 Years
By Associated Press
Published: 11/07/2005

A former inmate is waiting to be transferred to Florida after walking away from a work detail 18 years ago. A spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service in Pensacola says Hernando Hennessy-Rossi was 39 when he vanished. He surrendered last in Houston after learning authorities were tracking him.
Hennessy-Rossi had been serving a five-year sentence at the federal minimum security prison camp at Eglin Air Force Base. He had only served about four months when he disappeared. Hennessy-Rossi was arrested in 1987 after custom inspectors at Miami International Airport caught him trying to smuggle one-point-nine kilograms of cocaine.
