Inmate Caught after High Speed Chase
By The Indy Channel
Published: 11/09/2005

An escaped Kentucky inmate was captured following a high speed chase through Indianapolis late Tuesday, according to officials. Officers did not release information about how the inmate, Brent E. Merritt, managed to escape from a federal prison camp in Kentucky early Tuesday morning. Merritt was found driving in Indianapolis.

Merritt was reportedly found driving his own pick-up truck, which contained several guns, and led police on a 30-minute high-speed chase. Police used stop sticks to puncture holes in Merritt's truck tires, halting the chase and arresting Merritt immediately. After searching the vehicle, officers found the weapons, which included several rifles and handguns.

Officials believe that Merritt was driving to Indianapolis in an attempt to hurt his wife and family, all of whom reside there. Officers also believe that Merritt had help escaping from the facility.
