A Tennessee inmate that escaped from work crew duty on Wednesday is suspected of sexually assaulting a local woman at knifepoint. Following the assault, officials believe the inmate stole the victim's car, jewelry, a cell phone and money. The assaulted woman positively identified Bird as the man who tied her up and held her at knife point. The inmate, James Daniel Bird, escaped from Carter County Work Camp and is considered armed and dangerous. The work crew supervisor reportedly saw bird escape on foot. Bird was serving a 15-year sentence for theft and forgery charges. Officials are still searching for Bird and have sent out an alert for the woman's car, a 1998 red Honda CRV. |
