A list of complaints was signed by more than half of the inmates at Nebraska's Tecumseh state prison. Officials started to look at the petition yesterday. According to reports, this is one of the largest petitions ever filed in the state, and officers are taking it seriously because of the number of inmates who signed. Almost 460 inmates signed the petition, which accounts for about 52% of the prison population. The petition reportedly addressed limited access to day rooms and showers, unprofessional and racist staff, cafeteria food being served past expiration dates, inadequate food portions and a shortage of prison jobs. Officials stated that the inmates were handling the situation constructively. Officers added that if there was any validity to the complaints, appropriate action would be taken. |
