Five CO's Indicted in PA

Five Philadelphia prison guards have been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that they repeatedly pummeled a naked inmate in his cell. An indictment unsealed yesterday charged the guards with criminal civil rights violations for an alleged beating on June 14, 2004, at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center.

It allegedly began when one of the guards indicted in the case, Milton Gibbs, 41, ordered the inmate to strip. The indictment said Gibbs was then joined by the other guards who were indicted: Anthony Morant, 41; Arnel Alanguilan, 37; Joseph Murray, 36; and Troy Lindsey, 35. Gibbs and Morant reportedly "entered the cell and began beating the inmate by repeatedly punching, kicking, and striking and pummeling him," according to the indictment.

If convicted, the five defendants likely face at least two years in prison, according to the advisory federal sentencing guidelines.
