A 42-year-old Minneapolis wife, and mother of three, is accused of stealing $120,000 from the Dakota County Jail. Theresa Ford is charged with theft by swindle. She worked as a financial clerk for the sheriff's department. It was her job to keep track of all inmate funds; funds that incoming inmates have when booked and those they earn while incarcerated. Ford was also involved in providing money to cover health costs or other expense incurred by inmates. Over the last six months, a Dakota County Attorney says Ford had been stealing from inmate accounts, among other things he says she was taking cash off the top, when inmates were booked in the jail. When the money was discovered that the money was missing, investigators looked at who had access to these monies. Ford's name came up, as did the fact that she had recently resigned from her job at the jail. |
