Eleven Northumberland County Prison inmates were forcibly removed from their cells early Tuesday morning, according to recently released reports. Officials report that the inmates started to demolish the bathroom sinks and toilets in their cells, and throw pieces porcelain. Officials said that because the porcelain could be used as a weapon, the cell-extraction team was authorized to use pepper-spray and an electric immobilization weapon. Although all of the inmates involved were pepper-sprayed, the only two inmates that were seriously injured had cut themselves on porcelain. Officers have moved four of the suspected ringleaders of the disturbance to another facility. Prison administrators are looking into renovations that would reduce the risk of a repeat occurrence. |
