There's no foul play suspected in the death of an inmate at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility, Lauderdale County authorities say. The body of Reginald Williams, 32, of Meridian, was found hanging in his cell Thursday, said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department. "Attempts to administer CPR and first aid were made by prison personnel. Metro Ambulance was called and the inmate was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead," Calhoun said. The sheriff's department is investigating the death and waiting for autopsy results from the Mississippi Mortuary in Pearl. Williams was serving a 4-1/2 year sentence for simple assault on a police officer in Lauderdale County. He began serving his sentence in February. The East Mississippi Correctional Facility, located in the Lost Gap community in southwest Lauderdale County, is a privately run prison that houses inmates with mental disorders. It is owned by The Geo Group Inc., formerly Wackenhut Corrections Corp. |
