A corrections officer at Kentucky State Penitentiary was arrested and charged with smuggling drugs to prison inmates. Internal affairs investigators at the prison said the officer, Charles McGregor, 29, a six-year prison employee, had more than five ounces of marijuana hidden in his shoes. He was arrested Thursday and booked into the Caldwell County Jail. Internal affairs officers said they investigated McGregor for several months and saw him receive a package from an inmate's family member last weekend in Madisonville. McGregor admitted the package contained the drugs he brought to the prison, police said. McGregor is charged with two counts of first-degree promoting contraband and bribery of a public servant. The second count of promoting contraband came after a handgun was allegedly found in McGregor's vehicle on prison property. Two inmates suspected of receiving the drugs were placed in administrative segregation. |
