Fla. Inmate Escapes
By Associated Press
Published: 12/06/2005

Florida deputies are searching Sumter County swamp for an escaped jail inmate. The inmate, Dominic Reddick, escaped after he bolted from a prisoner transport van Monday.

The van, carrying eight inmates, broke down on Monday afternoon. While it was being repaired, Reddick took off. Investigators think a trip to a service station restroom may have been the key to his escape.

Officers believe that Reddick is hiding in the woods along the highway where the van broke down. Reddick may still have his handcuffs on, but officials say he is barefoot. Reddick had been in the Orange County jail since February, charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. He is believed to be dangerous.
