Six Texas inmates are now facing additional jail time after being accused of holding three detention officers against their will at a Cameron County Detention Center Friday, according to recently released reports. All six men Valente Morales, 25, Samuel Benavidez, 25, Marco Antonio Tapia, 19, Elias Lopez, 18, Alfredo Alcalde, 22, and Roberto Castillo Jr., 26 were arraigned at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center Tuesday by Justice of the Peace Linda Salazar. Each faces a $25,000 bond on charges of three counts of unlawful restraint, aside from any previous bonds or penalties they faced for unrelated crimes. The incident occurred Friday at 4:30 p.m. when inmates complained of a clogged toilet. Detention officers investigating the claims were captured when they offered assistance. The officers were released within minutes. SWAT officers were called in to ensure that peace was maintained. Unlawful restraint is a third degree felony, which could mean an additional five years for each of the three counts against the men. |
