Several corrections officers at the Orange County, Fla. Jail were arrested Monday after being indicted on federal drug charges, according to a WKMG report. One week after a state and federal investigation at the Orange County Jail was exposed, three officers face charges, including drug dealing and credit card fraud from inside jail. Richard "Rick" Brandenberger, 51, was charged with possessing and distributing Ecstasy and marijuana last July. Jorge Rodriguez, 54, was charged with distributing heroin last April. The arrests were part of an investigation by state, local and federal agents probing corruption at the county jail. Brandenberger was released on bond. His attorney, Mike LeFay, said Brandenberger would mount a vigorous defense. "He disputes every word in the indictment," LeFay said. Rodriguez complained of chest pains and his first appearance was postponed. He was taken to a hospital and couldn't be reached for comment. A third officer, Shawn Johnson, 32, was arrested on credit card fraud and identity theft charges. He was being held on $1,000 bond. |
