A local man who last week attempted suicide at Maine's Penobscot County Jail died Sunday at Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he had been in critical condition since late last week. Penobscot County Sheriff Glenn Ross confirmed early Sunday evening the death of Jeffrey McKenney, 39, of Bangor. McKenney reportedly tried to take his own life last Thursday by hanging himself with a bedsheet. Corrections officers found him during a routine prisoner check. McKenney had been at the jail since Nov. 29, when he allegedly threatened to kill a former girlfriend and then attacked another man with a knife. He faced aggravated assault and criminal threatening charges, but Ross said that there was no indication that McKenney was suicidal. |
