A fugitive who walked away from an Ohio prison honor farm 34 years ago has turned himself in. His daughter says 58-year-old Jackie Darrell Caudill was tired of running from the law. Caudill was 18 months into a ten- to 25-year sentence for armed robbery when he escaped from the Osborn Honor Farm near Sandusky, Ohio. Officials believe Caudill obtained a fake driver's license and Social Security card. He lived in Arizona, California and Texas. He married twice, but had no other children. Caudill had no trouble with the law except for a couple of drunk-driving charges -- the last one in 1980. Caudill visited his ailing mother in Alabama several months ago and decided to surrender. But first Caudill contacted his 36-year-old daughter in Sandusky -- a woman he'd never met. She escorted her father to the sheriff's office last week. |
