Inmates to Join in Holiday Sing

Four California inmates will join carolers participating in the 26th annual Pop Hudson Memorial Christmas Sing in Sonora. The singers are part of the 4,000-inmate prison's Community Betterment Program, said Lt. Kenny Calhoun, spokesman for SCC.
With one inmate on guitar, the four will perform "Feliz NavĂdad," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," and a song they wrote together.
Calhoun said the inmates, who have performed at other venues, live and work among the 130-man Baseline Conservation Camp while serving out their sentences. Baseline is one of 19 fire camps run by the California Department of Corrections.
All four inmates participate in a drug treatment program and fight fires when called upon.
Many years ago, SCC inmates were a part of the Sing, organized each year by The Union Democrat staff. This Christmas, after a years-long absence, they were invited back.
