Four California inmates will join carolers participating in the 26th annual Pop Hudson Memorial Christmas Sing in Sonora. The singers are part of the 4,000-inmate prison's Community Betterment Program, said Lt. Kenny Calhoun, spokesman for SCC. With one inmate on guitar, the four will perform "Feliz NavĂdad," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," and a song they wrote together. Calhoun said the inmates, who have performed at other venues, live and work among the 130-man Baseline Conservation Camp while serving out their sentences. Baseline is one of 19 fire camps run by the California Department of Corrections. All four inmates participate in a drug treatment program and fight fires when called upon. Many years ago, SCC inmates were a part of the Sing, organized each year by The Union Democrat staff. This Christmas, after a years-long absence, they were invited back. |
