A convicted murderer serving a life sentence died last week of natural causes at Montana State Prison. A prison official said Thomas Scarborough, 48, died after an extended illness. Scarborough was convicted in Lake County on charges of murder, attempted murder and robbery in the death of 32-year-old hitchhiker David Willis in August 1996. Willis was shot at least twice with a .22-caliber rifle at Scarborough's home in St. Ignatius. Scarborough was also convicted of trying to kill Willis' traveling partner, Ray Morrison. Scarborough's former sister-in-law, Amy Locklin, was sentenced to 40 years in prison on charges of accountability to attempted murder and accountability to robbery. |
