Melbourne's prisoner remand facility has become the first jail in Australia, Victoria to have an iris scanner and a new machine that can detect narcotics and explosives. The scanning technology has been installed to combat an increase in the number of people trying to smuggle drugs and other items into the Melbourne Assessment Prison.
