The details of moving 330 inmates to the new Vanderburgh County jail sometime next month are being kept secret to make the move more secure, officials said. Officials are preparing to move the inmates to the $35 million, 512-bed jail. Inmates will be handcuffed and shackled, said Sheriff Brad Ellsworth. "It's not really a mysterious operation," Ellsworth said. "We just don't want to help inmates bomb the bus or have someone try to break someone out or try to follow the caravan to harass it." The new jail will adjoin the smaller Vanderburgh County Community Corrections Complex, a 200-bed, $3 million work-release facility. |
