Macomb County, Mich., Sheriff's Deputies Matthew Mulcahy and Bret Likins and Corrections Officer Timothy Flanigan were honored recently by their colleagues for coming to the aid of an inmate who tried to commit suicide who was being housed in the maximum security section of the county jail. The officers received the Macomb County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 112 "Officer of the Month" award from Sheriff Mark A. Hackel and Timothy Kelly, secretary of Lodge 112. Flanigan said he and the other officers were being briefed by the midnight officers when some of the inmates in the maximum security area started yelling for help. As the officers entered the unit, they were told that Jason was trying to commit suicide. Officers called to the medical staff for help. Likens and Flanigan administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation and chest compressions. The inmate then started to slowly respond while going in and out of consciousness. The man then was turned over to the medical staff, who took over emergency medical care. Hackel said officers reacted quickly and called the right people to assist in the life-saving measure. Likens and Flanigan immediately went to the man and cut him down and administered CPR. |
