A North Carolina inmate at the Davidson County Jail died after scuffling with two detention officers, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The release says the officers were called to the inmate's cell Saturday night to disarm him of a fiberglass mop handle. The inmate became unresponsive after struggling with the officers, who then reportedly called county emergency services.

The release says officers began cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts. The inmate, whose name wasn't available, was taken to Lexington Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Further details have not been released.
