Two juvenile robbery suspects are back in custody in California after making a break from Juvenile Hall last week. According to Kern County Sheriff, three inmates were being transported from the downtown courthouse, back to Juvenile Hall when two of them managed to get out their handcuffs and shackles. The third juvenile was detained by the deputy driving the jail van.
In response, several law enforcement agencies including the Bakersfield Police Department, California Highway Patrol and local firefighters began to search for the juveniles. One of the inmates, 17-year-old Shannon James, turned up on the roof of a home. Officers came in from every corner and climbed up the roof to take him into custody. Soon after wards, he was handcuffed.
The other inmate, 17-year-old Bryan Barron, turned up in the backyard and more officers were called into the action to help capture the suspect. They chased him into another home, and were able to capture him. The Sheriff Department said two of the inmates being transported in the van had just been sentenced in the downtown jail for up to 14 years in prison for robbery. One of the escapees being put back into a squad car said he just wanted to go home. Officials said one of the suspects admitted to having a handcuff key. He told investigators that he obtained the key while at the courthouse, but didn't provide details on how he obtained it. Both James and Barron are now behind bars. They will spend eight years in the California Youth Authority until they are moved into an adult prison to serve time for the robbery conviction.
The third inmate who was captured right away is 17-year-old Samuel Ochoa who is accused of attempted murder.
