Ten North Dakota county jail inmates face charges after an alert jailer uncovered their plans for an illegal New Year's Eve party, officials say. Ward County Sheriff Vern Erck said the prisoners were planning to party with homemade booze and prescription drugs. Erck said the jailer noticed inmates gathering around a cell and went to investigate. The jailer saw a powdered substance and smelled booze, and the Ward County Drug Task Force was called, Erck said. Eight prisoners face charges of illegal possession of a controlled substance and two face charges of delivering the material, the sheriff said. Three or four pouches of homemade booze were destroyed, he said. The homemade hooch was made with sugar, fruit juice and other leftovers saved from the prisoners' lunches, the sheriff said. |
