Two Burlington County, N.J. Detention Center officers have been arrested on charges of smuggling cigarettes and prepaid cellular phone cards to inmates in exchange for cash, officials said last week. Vincenzo A. Perricone, 25, of Burlington City, and James H. Dowd, 27, of Lumberton, were charged with official misconduct in an investigation that is continuing, the state Attorney General's Office said. The corrections officers, who were arrested last Friday, have been suspended from their jobs. Both were released on their own recognizance. No court date was set. Dowd is charged with second-degree official misconduct, which carries maximum penalties of 10 years in prison and a $150,000 fine. Perricone's charge of third-degree official misconduct carries maximum penalties of five years in prison and a fine of $15,000. |
