Arizona supervisors passed a resolution granting preliminary approval to issue bonds to make up for a six and a-half million dollar short-fall for building an eleven million dollar jail annex. The vote came after Yuma County Sheriff Ralph Ogden warned the supervisors that the county jail population will likely exceed 870 inmates by 2010 and exceed 12-hundred by 2015. Ogden says the existing jail has 675 beds and the average daily inmate count currently stands at 703. The proposed annex would add 80 beds. |
