A cause of death has not been determined for an Indiana man who died in the Vermillion County Jail in Newport last week.
James D.L. Shuler, 24, of Clinton was found dead in a holding cell. Vermillion County Coroner Darrin Tucker said the cause of death remains under investigation pending lab results that could take up to two weeks.
County Sheriff Kim Hawkins initially said police do not suspect foul play. Indiana State Police is investigating the inmate's death. As part of standard practice, the Sheriff's Department also is conducting an internal investigation.
