A northern Ohio jail said it has addressed the complaints of an inmate who claimed his religious rights were being violated. Joe Freeman said the Crawford County Jail in Bucyrus constantly served him hot dogs, bologna and other foods made from pork, which he is prohibited from eating as a Muslim. He complained about his treatment in a letter to the Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum newspaper. Jail Commander Bob Battelline said Freeman did not put down his religion on his sign-in sheet. He said Freeman is now being served an alternative to pork products after he was shown how to request a dietary substitute. Freeman is awaiting trial on four counts of pandering obscenity involving minor and other related charges. |
